Nature of the Atlas

Discover the Natural World of the Atlas Mountains

Away from the beaten tourist trail, the Atlas Mountains are rich in nature and wildlife just waiting to be discovered. Wild boar abound in the forests, rare marmots make their homes in the rockfaces, and the elusive Levaillant’s Green Woodpecker is often heard across the valley with its haunting call.

Birds of prey including the rare Lammergeier, Eagles and falcons are often encountered on a day out from Marrakech. Flocks of Choughs can be seen winging their way across the mountain passes, and barbary partridge still make their homes in the mountain screes.
