Our new Mountain Biking tours in the Atlas Mountains enable you to discover these iconic mountains in a new way. We will take you way off the beaten tourist trails to a world of traditional farmers and villagers.
The singletrack experience in Morocco is simply stunning. A whole network of donkey trails connect remote villages, and we will help you to discover them from the saddle of your favourite bike.
We operate in the Amizmiz and Anoughal area, just 50 minutes journey from Marrakech. This area boasts native scrub oak and juniper forest as well as pine plantations on the foothills, which rise up to 2000m and make for some amazing Moroccan MTB experiences. Higher up on the Toulkine plateau we can take you to really remote trails on the flanks of the mighty Jbel Wirzem, a 3500m monster of a mountain. This unexplored region has hundreds of kilometers of trails and singletrack for you to explore.
Depending on the technical ability and fitness of your group, we will lead you on 4×4 tracks and singletrack, with the possibility of high mountainside where there are no trails. Whatever your level, your experience of mountain biking here in the Marrakech region will be unforgettable!
We live here and ride these trails several times a week, so we can give you insights that no other tours will give you.
Who are we?
I’m your biking leader, Marc. I’m a MIAS level 2 leader, and have many years of mountain biking experience (since I was a student in fact!). I’m also a qualified International Mountain Leader. You can read more about me here. Originally from the UK, I live locally and ride these trails all the time. My aim is to give you an exceptional biking adventure in these beautiful mountains. All the villages we eat at or drink mint tea at are personal friends of mine, we do not go to the touristic places. As well as doing some great riding, you will experience berber culture first-hand and gain an intimate understanding of the unique Atlas Mountains.
Our three most popular Mountain Biking day tours:
Trail Ride and Tajine
This is the ideal introductory day to Mountain Biking in Morocco. Your taxi will deliver you and the bikes in the market town of Amizmiz, just 50mins from Marrakech.
That’s where we will meet you, and take you out on a stunning ride through berber foothills. This trail follows 4×4 tracks and a few easy singletracks to give you a great day out. We will also take you for a traditional Tajine lunch in a berber village.
The afternoon ride will wind down through the mountains back to the town.
Ideal if you are not so sure of your fitness level and don’t want to get into any technical ground, this relaxed day’s ride is a great introduction to berber culture, and a lovely adventure for those who want to get beyond the tourist zones of marrakech.
Distance: 30km
Height Gain: 700m
Average time: 5h
Trail type: Predominantly 4×4 tracks between the villages. Occasional wide donkey tracks.
Price:
€150 / 1600Dh
Second and subsequent people go half-price.
High Mountain passes and Pines
For those wanting a longer day out, this tour offers some of the finest 4×4 tracks in the backwaters of the Atlas Mountains. This is the land of shepherds and pine forests, unknown by most tourist groups.
Although not technical, this route requires a couple of hours of uphill on easy 4×4 tracks, to gain the Toulkine plateau. In prehistoric times this plateau was inhabited by hunter-gatherers, and there are still singns of their occupation today.
We drop down to a hidden village at the foot of some impressive limestone cliffs where you should see falcons and eagles soaring overhead. We then have traditional tajine and mint tea in a berber house which we affectionately call “The Hobbit Hole”.
In the afternoon there’s one small ascent left before we ride down out of the mountains back to the town of Amizmiz. There are options of doing some more technical singletrack trails on the way back, subject to whether we think you will be capable of enjoying this.
Distance: 35km
Height Gain: 1200m
Average time: 6h
Trail type: Predominantly 4×4 tracks between the villages. 1000m ascent on a good 4×4 track to gain the plateau. Occasional singletracks.
Price:
€150 / 1600Dh
Second and subsequent people go half-price.
Technical Berber Ridge ride at 2000m
This is without a doubt the best ride in the whole area.
We will take you up a winding forest road from the town of Amizmiz up to a mountain peak at 2200m altitude. Then we will ride an old 4×4 track and then a thrilling singletrack along the crest of this mountain ridge, high above the Anoughal valley.
Dropping down into the valley, we will eat a hot traditional Tajine lunch in a Berber village.
Then we ride back to Amizmiz, either via another mountain pass, or along singletrack on the valley floor, passing several more villages.
This is a long and strenuous route, but well worth it for those with a spirit of adventure! The one technical descent is optional, so if you fancy this spectacular route but don’t want to ride the hard bit, that’s absolutely fine.
Distance: 40km
Height Gain: 2000m
Average time: 7h
Trail type: Singletrack. 4×4 tracks through the villages. Open mountainside.
Price:
€150 / 1600Dh
