Patchy snow in March on Toubkal Summit
Toubkal Weather
Toubkal weather conditions vary tremendously. It is possible to stand on the snow-covered summit as late as May and look south over the sun-scorched Sahara Desert!
Summer temperatures on Toubkal can be intense, when the temperatures in Marrakech soar into the high 40s. Shade can be non-existant once you are trekking in the high mountains, and the strong African sun can quickly deplete your reserves of water as you seek to stay hydrated.
Toubkal winter conditions can be just as severe. When its very clear and dry the temperatures on the summit can easily plummet to -20 even at midday. When snow storms set in, which they will usually do a couple of times a month through the winter, things can quickly get serious and hard decisions about whether to turn back or carry on will need to be made.
Before heading into the High Atlas you should familiarise yourself with the forecast for the duration of your trip, and get updates if necessary throughout your trip. To save you time we have collated several of the best sources here on this page for your convenience.
