Investment in local community development

Wild Goose Adventure is passionate about the local berber people who have lived in the Atlas Mountains for so many centuries. Our closest friends here are the locals.

We aim to put all profits from Wild Goose Adventure SARL back into the development of local communities. As foreigners in Morocco we want our presence here to be a blessing to the locals. We aim to be able to put back into the local communities far more than we take. Through partnership with local associations run by the very people we regularly work with, we are able to sponsor their projects and help them to develop.

Ongoing Training

In collaboration with local Moroccan guides we are working to produce a programme of ongoing training and CPD. Many of them have not had the learning opportunities that we have and find it difficult and expensive to get to training courses in Europe, so we want to pass on what we know to them. This includes running courses in:

Navigation,

Winter Skills,

Ropework,

Avalanche Awareness,

Client care,

Understanding western clients.

Fair Wages

We are committed to paying our local workers a fair wage for their services. Our muleteers, cooks and porters receive above the normal local rates for their work, as well as substantial tips. We aim to provide opportunities to improve their skills and advance their career path.

Humanitarian Mule treatment

We care deeply about the long-term treatment of the animals who will accompany you on your trek.

Our muleteers are trained in the use of humanitarian bits and bridles. We limit the amount we allow the mules to carry to 80kg. In collaboration with The Donkey Sanctuary, we help our local staff to treat their animals in the best possible way so that they can enjoy their work and not suffer.

Our chief muleteer has been trained by workers from the Donkey Sanctuary who have spent time in Imlil understanding the conditions here and providing appropriate welfare training.
