This is our first Toubkal winter conditions post for this year.

It’s been a very hot and dry autumn. Back in mid-October there were a few days of rain, otherwise the weather has been sunny and hot.

The featured picture on this post was taken yesterday from Ager Sioual on the approach to Imlil, looking up towards Toubkal.

The high Atlas are still in summer condition really. There is a very light scattering of snow above 3800m, the remains of what fell in mid-October, but it is slowly melting off. Temperatures remain just below freezing on the summits of the High Atlas at the moment. There is the potential of small patches of ice above 3500m, particularly in shaded gulleys which don’t get much sun, such as the ascent from the refuge on the main Toubkal route.

With temperatures set to stay high for the next few weeks, and no precipitation predicted, it is looking like winter will not be coming to the High Atlas anytime soon.

We will keep you updated when winter sets in properly. For those who have planned early winter trips here in the next month or so, sorry about the lack of snow!
