There has not been a good snowfall in the High Atlas since November, so what remains on Toubkal now is very old névé.

Most North-facing aspects still have good snow cover above 3000m. Below that it is melting fast. A lot of the south-facing aspects of the High Atlas are now completely clear of snow. In the gullies and more shaded areas above 3000m there is snow on all aspects. The tops and ridges are very wind-scoured and snow is sparse.

Lower down there is still ice in shaded gullies down to about 2500m.

The snowpack that remains is very consolidated, bullet-hard névé, and ice.

I was unable to run up to the refuge this week to take photos as they are no longer allowing people to go up there without an Imlili person accompanying. (Post on security updates to follow). So the photos are from the surrounding area near Aguelzim and Tizi n Tzikert (2900m)

Full winter equipment is still necessary to climb Toubkal at the moment, although with the ongoing warm spring, there’s no knowing how much longer the winter season will last.

North face of Aguelzim (3500m) from Tizi n Tzikert. Imouzzer in the far distance.

Just below the zigzags on Aguelzim. Tazaghart plateau in the distance. Still good snow in the gullys.
