Night in a Berber Village

A two day, one night experience including beautiful walking through the forests and hills of the Atlas Mountains, and a night in a traditional Tashelhayt Berber village.

Starting in the historic market town of Amizmiz, just one hour from Marrakech. We will walk wandering shepherd’s trails up through several villages. when we reach the pine forests the views of the plains below are simply stunning. We then wind through fields and arrive at the village of Ait Irghit.

Staying with a local family, there may be the opportunity to see how traditional bread (tnirt) is made on a clay oven. You can explore the village, follow the irrigation system deep into the mountains, or simply relax and enjoy local berber tea.

After a traditional breakfast of olives, bread, butter and tea, we make our way down the old forestry road back to Amizmiz, arriving early afternoon for departure to Marrakech.

Experience locally made tajine or couscous and learn how to eat with your hands! This is traditional hospitality and cultural immersion at it’s finest.

Learn about the way of life of the Tashelhayt berber people. They have lived in the Atlas Mountains for centuries, shepherding their flocks and growing crops to both eat and sell, making a living in this extreme mountain environment.

Accommodation

We stay with a local family, sleeping on foam matresses on the floor. For small groups you can make do with theiir blankets provided, or bring your own sleeping bag. In winter (nov-feb) it’s rrecommended to bring a warm sleeping bag as there is often snow and the houses are cold at night.

Booking Process:

Once you submit a booking we will send you an invoice. A 30% deposit will be required to confirm your booking, with the balance due no later than 30 days before your trek.

If you want to make a last minute booking (less than 1 month before your start date) or are already in Morocco, then you can pay in cash (Moroccan Dirhams) the morning that your trek begins. Note that failure to pay in full at this time will mean that your trip unfortunately will not run.
